According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of State, bomb incidents dominated all forms of political violence directed at Americans internationally. Between 1987 and 1997, there were 1,825 acts of political violence directed at Americans abroad. Of these incidents, 1,163 were explosive or incendiary related. Comparing these statistics, over 64% of politically motivated attacks against Americans between 1987-97 were explosive or incendiary related.
